About the Author

Robert J. Duperre is an author from Connecticut, the land of insurance, tobacco, and unfulfilled dreams. 3 Moves Entrepreneurs Must Make by Gerald Pilcher

There’s a lot of pressure for small-business owners to be masters of every aspect of their business. This is especially true when you’re first starting out and are often a one-person […] With somewhat limited resources and fear of failing, small-business owners will often push challenging tasks to the back burner. This may work out […]

[Marketing 101] The Importance of Investing in People

Marketing101People4When you hear the names Harley Davidson, Ed Catmull, J.K Rowling, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg, what do you think of?

Do you think of motorcycles? How about Pixar? Harry Potter? Amazon or of course, Facebook?

What do all these success stories have in common? Yes, they have overwhelmingly popular brands making thousands of dollars every day. BUT! What is it they all have in common? What gave them the appeal? Did they just wake up and have these massive empires?

The answer is an all over resounding, NO!

These people had something they wanted to share with the world. Something they dreamed of and wanted to see successful. But how were they going to do this? Just post it up and wish or hope people would find their product if they decided to do no marketing whatsoever?

There was no social media when many of these great success stories came to fruition so what did they do to make such monumental impacts?

Simple. They saw the answer in front of them. Something so easily overlooked in a world saturated with desires to be famous and get rich quick goals. It wasn’t about them.

As marketers, we must remember it is about people first, not us! (2)They realized early on… in order to have a successful product, you need to focus on pouring your energy into people. It is people that pass around the news of your product. People who bring awareness. People who spread the word. It’s people that makes a company what it is. And this doesn’t only apply to book marketing!

It’s a universal truth in businesses of all kinds!

For example, in today’s marketing world, there is not a person who would not recognize the name of Amazon. It is a multi-million dollar corporation reaching across a global scale in a variety of products. In the world of eBooks it holds the top slot in self and indie publishing.

Why? Because of people.

“If you make customers unhappy in the physical world, they might each tell 6 friends. If you make customers unhappy on the internet, they can each tell 6,000 friends.” — Jeff Bezos

Jess Bezos recognizes the power of the influence of people. He goes on to say:

“Obsess about customers, not competitors.” Jeff Bezos

Here is a man, a powerhouse in today’s market, humbling himself to the influence of the people his company serves.

Think about it? If no one used Amazon. If they went on with going to Wal-Mart on black Friday or never participated in cyber Monday, would Amazon still hold the place it does in today’s market? No, it wouldn’t. It is the overwhelming power of people that Jeff Bezos utilized to make Amazon what it is. He saw a need; he filled it and now look at what he has?

So often, new marketers and entrepreneurs fall into the trap of “Here’s my product, buy it!.” We flood our social media with constant self-promotion and forget: As marketers and entrepreneurs, we must remember it is about people first, not us!

As marketers, we must remember it is about people first, not us! (1)Here are seven things to think about when you start marketing your product.

  1. People buy from entrepreneurs who have something they want.
  2. Satisfaction leads to word of mouth. Word of mouth spreads awareness.
  3. People like to feel like more than a wallet. Make it about them.
  4. Making it about them leads to repeated visits and customer loyalty
  5. People identify with people who take the time to speak with them
  6. There is no product without the audience
  7. People invest time and effort into something they attach too. You can help create that attachment.

Things to Remember:

  • Having a great product must always be about something you want to bring into fruition first and foremost! If you are serious, the passion has to continue into marketing and reaching people!
  • Do NOT see marketing a product as a get rich quick scheme. Many of the companies listed (Amazon, Harley Davidson, Pixar, Harry Potter and Facebook) took years to gain momentum!
  • Recognize a need/ find your niche/ tribe.
  • Anyone can bust out information told over and over on blogs and websites. Find something you want to ask but no one seems to have addressed yet.
  • Anything worth doing is going to take some serious work!
  • 80/20 Rule >> 80% of your engagement must involve your audience; 20% can be you.

Marketing101People2Making money doing what you love is a dream many of us have. We long to quit our jobs and make our burning passion our daily job BUT we must remember, in the end, we want people to know we exist. If your passion is more than a hobby, start networking with people now! Whatever you do, never give up. Success is a process, not a sprint.

[Spotlight] The Blood Within The Stone by T.R. Thompson

By:  T.R. Thompson

Date of publication: 22/7/17
Genre: Fantasy, Dark Fantasy, Young Adult (12+)
Blurb:
A shadow is spreading across the land. Fear will be your downfall.
When the Prefects of Redmondis discover that their quick minds and quicker fingers hide secret potential, young thieves Wilt and Higgs find themselves unwilling recruits. Wilt’s ability to sink into others’ thoughts, knowing what action they will take before they do, is both a prized and dangerous gift.
The Nine Sisters of Redmondis have sensed a growing threat, and search for the one who can control the power of the blood within the stone. But even their sinister plots are nothing compared to the force that controls them.
As Wilt and Higgs rally their newfound weapons, they discover that the threat to their lives, and their reality, is much greater than they realize.

Excerpt:
“Daemi, isn’t it?”
Daemi increased her pace, so Wilt hurried along beside her. He wasn’t going to give up that easily.
“I was wondering if you could help me.”
“Do not speak to me.” Her voice was harsh and cold, her breath fogging out of the gap in her helm the only sign of humanity.
“Pete–the old man who healed me–he’s a guard too, isn’t he?”
Daemi swung around suddenly and shoved Wilt to the ground. She paused for a second to look down at him, and Wilt saw something new in her eyes. Fear perhaps, or regret. Daemi turned away quickly and resumed her march.
“I told you not to speak to me.”
Wilt lay in the dirt for a second, considering his predicament. She was faster than seemed possible in that armour. Maybe it wasn’t as heavy as it looked.
He pushed himself to his feet and skipped after her. “The reason I ask is, he’s missing a finger.”
Daemi spun again but this time Wilt was ready. He ducked the blow and grabbed her wrist as it sailed over his head, then stepped in and twisted her arm behind her. Before she could react, he slid her glove from her hand. Sure enough, her little finger was missing, and a fresh bandage covered the wound where it had been.
“Just as you seem to be missing one.”
“You dare!”
Wilt heard the raw anger in her voice and let go, stepping well clear. She spun to face him, the long knife already clasped in her other hand, pointing directly at his heart.
Wilt held up his hands in surrender, her glove still clasped in one of them. “Let’s not do anything either of us will regret later.”
Daemi was beyond reasoning with. She let out a scream of incoherent rage and charged at him. Wilt barely had time to spin clear.
“There’s no need for this. Here.” Wilt threw her glove back to her, making sure it sailed high enough to lift her eyes. Sure enough, he saw their green light follow the arc of the glove. As soon as they left him, he shot forwards and kicked the knife from her hand.
The blade spun away and landed in the dirt. Wilt felt quite pleased with himself, for all of a second or so. Daemi’s cry of rage turned into a grunt of effort as she dropped and spun, her back leg sweeping around to take Wilt’s legs out from under him. He flopped back onto the ground and the air exploded from his lungs. Before he could roll away Daemi was on top of him, her hands clasped tight around his throat.
Wilt gaped up at her and felt himself fade as her image blurred. There was no air left in him, and no way to suck any more in. Bright stars burned through his vision.
No! He is reaching for me. I will not let him in, I must not let him in. I will kill him first.
Wilt saw himself lying prone, hands wrapped around his throat, his eyes grey and strange, all colour drained from them, yet still staring, peering into him, completely into him, taking him over. His hands loosened their grip.
Damn you! I will not let you take me!
But I do not want to take you. Just let go. Let me breathe. Like that.
Wilt saw his eyes begin to clear then slipped back into his own mind, the thick black rope that had linked their minds slithering away from her.
Wilt coughed and sat up, rubbing his throat. Her nails had drawn blood.
Daemi had rolled free and was on all fours, her body shaking. Something like a sob wrenched out of her.
“That will do I think.”

[Blog Tour] Keys to Success from a Completely UnSuccessful Person by Joel Cunningham

Satire, Humor, Self-Help
Date Published: 12-15-17
 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png
Dear Reader,
Knowledge, success, hope–this book will provide you with none of these things.
For those who are curious to check out the contents and “guidance” provided in this book, I would like to offer a brief, but important warning before you embark on your treacherous journey. I am this book’s editor. I have thoroughly handled, absorbed, and regurgitated the contents of this book over and over again, and while most of the content in this “self-help” book is, in my professional opinion, completely ridiculous and easily recognized as such, I fear that some of you who read this book may sadly find yourselves duped by Joel’s terrible advice.
Speaking modestly, Keys to Success from a Completely Unsuccessful Person represents is a collection of thoughts, ideas, and errant opinions from the delusional mind of a self-proclaimed self-help guru. Somehow, Joel has miraculously and single-handedly compiled more nonsense, utter gibberish, and complete lunacy into one book than any other author in all of human history that I am presently aware of.
Again, while I do believe that the majority of readers will find themselves deeply amused at the sheer idiocy in this anthology of stupidity, I fear that some poor souls may just get sucked into the author’s delusions. For that reason, I have provided this warning to please disregard Joel’s terrible advice. For most readers, I expect and hope that they will be amused by the book’s clear guidance on how not to find success and find humor in what the book attempts to instruct them to do.
Perhaps most importantly, I believe that although my hand was forced to publish this book of unrefined nonsense by Joel and my superiors, Joel will finally be exposed to the world for who he really is–a completely unsuccessful person.

A science Fiction novel tangled in the psychology of being human and the vulnerability of an unconventional Love story
Grace was born a storyteller with a beautifully brilliant mind. Trauma twisted her reality into its own tale of darkness. Now, at eighteen, Grace has found herself on the shores of a shadow world created to heal a generation. A world whose purpose is to release our emotions from the bonds of youth.
But she is not alone. It’s a world inhabited by others, those working on their own hearts and one other like herself. An amazing and yet afflicted empath and musician by the name of Kai that Grace feels inexplicably drawn to.
Will she be able to handle the suppressed memories of her youth? Accept the vulnerability necessary to explore her own heart and that of another? Fulfill the true purpose it seems she is destined to serve?
Come along with Grace as she learns to uncover her past, harness her gift, open her heart to love and embrace her future.

Excerpt:

It was just like Sen had said it would be.  All of a sudden, she just knew it was here. It felt like time was catching up to itself so she could be hurled back into her own world.  Grace knew that there was no stopping it. She had just a few moments before all of the knowledge of this place would leave her, the Love, the Magic, the Pain, the Boy.

Her heart, even though it had been Uncovered and glistened with the essence of pure emotion, began to break.  A small and life-altering crack edged along the perimeter. It made a quiet rolling gesture along the surface of her heart and then as time found its trail of breadcrumbs back home, the crack made for the center.   It struck with the force of lightning. All it left in its wake was a single Love letter. A song he sang to her playing over and over again filling the void where her memory once was.

When she opened her eyes, she was alone in her bathroom again. The knife she held so long ago, was lying lifeless in the sink and all she could do was hum a strangely familiar tune, though she wasn’t sure where she had heard it before.
2.

Her senses in this world were peaked … Grace could hear things she couldn’t see, see things she couldn’t feel and feel things she couldn’t imagine.

This place didn’t have incessant needs to answer. It didn’t have constant reminders of shoulds, coulds and woulds, and it didn’t speak to her like the world she came from.  This world was more like a meditation. It didn’t imprint on her, but rather for the first time since she was six, she felt like she was imprinting on something else … she felt a need rise up … Her chest convulsing, her breath irregular, her eyes tearing, she sobbed as this need found its home inside of her.  It had been there so long that it lay deep in her blood, her bones and in the chambers of her heart. How could she not know it was there all this time? She fell to the ground, knees catching her. Her hands pounded the grass as her eyes leaked a bright hazel green into the ground. As her chest convulsed with the power of needing to imprint, Grace let go of something, of a part of herself and as she did, a second Grace flickered into existence, naked beside her.  Hands pounding the grass, on her knees leaking bright green hazel color into the ground. Grace’s heart returned to one heartbeat; her vision was clear again, her hands stopped trembling. The calm was gone. Grace felt confidence. Grace felt acceptance. Grace felt Love.
